Call for Participation

Participate (application ended)

Time frame: Mo. May 1 - We. May 18, 2017

The University of Geneva and Swissnex San Francisco is inviting citizens and visitors of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area to collect anonymous noise levels of their environment with our Android NoiseBay app. Results are made available here to the community and a reward of $200 will be awarded to one of the participants.

Noise can be harmful or simply be something you want to avoid at certain times. Our noise map indicates noise exposure in different areas to the community. Results can for example be used by individuals to create awareness about their noisy neighborhoods and for health studies. We are in particular interested in gathering noise levels in an efficient and load minimizing way for our participants.

Results will also be presented at our live demo at Pier 17 on May 18, 2017. All participants are most welcome to have a chat and drink at our event! Participants will receive an invitation via email.

What's in for you?

  • easy and voluntary at all times
  • it's anonymous (no tracking; only decibels and no actual sounds or conversations recorded!)
  • you are invited to our live demo and aperitif on May 18 at Pier 17
  • you qualify for our reward of $200

  • Android phone
  • located in the Bay Area during the designated time frame (May 1 - 18)

After having signed up, we will ask you for some non-public infos about your availability and you can download our NoiseBay app.
You can withdraw from participation at any time.

That's all!
